Hi, I’m Jess.
I work with people whose bodies don't follow the rules.
Most of my clients have spent years being dismissed by doctors, feeling betrayed by their bodies, or trying to force themselves to function "normally" despite chronic pain or illness. They're exhausted from explaining their invisible symptoms to people who don't get it.
As a Latina therapist living with my own health challenges, I create a space where your physical experiences are believed without question. We'll tackle the complicated emotions of having a body that doesn't cooperate — the frustration, the grief, and yes, sometimes the dark humor that gets you through.
I specialize in helping you rebuild trust with your body, navigate intimacy and pleasure despite pelvic pain or sexual challenges, and create a life that honors both your limitations and your dreams.
This isn't just about coping — it's about reclaiming your right to rest, pleasure, and self-advocacy in a world that wasn't designed for bodies like ours.
All of your identities welcome, all in one space.
Volita Counseling is a therapeutic practice that provides compassionate support for your whole self.
Personalized Support - Receive tailored therapeutic approaches for whatever your unique journey requires, including chronic illness management, sexual and pelvic health concerns, and navigating productivity with physical limitations.
-
Jess helps you navigate the complex emotions of living with chronic conditions, including addressing internalized ableism that may have you believing you should "push through" despite your body's signals. Together, you'll develop a compassionate relationship with your body and learn to honor its needs without shame or judgment. Which — ironically — allows you to get more done with less flare-ups.
-
Sex therapy with Jess goes beyond traditional approaches by providing accurate psychoeducation about how bodies actually work — not how we've been told they should.
She helps clients break free from rigid sexual scripts (like "foreplay → penetration → done") and supports those with pelvic pain in discovering what genuine pleasure feels like for them.
The focus is on creating a sex life that works for your unique body through experimentation, communication, and permission to explore without shame.
-
As a Latina therapist, Jess brings both personal experience and professional understanding to working with marginalized identities. She addresses how systemic barriers impact your mental health, creating space to process experiences like being passed over for promotions despite your qualifications, navigating the complexities of looking "too white" for some communities while being "too cultural" for others, or feeling caught between your culture of origin and American values. Together, you'll work through internalized racism and the pressure to perform perfectly as a person of color.
-
For neurodivergent clients, Jess focuses on building genuine self-acceptance and addressing internalized ableism that may have you constantly masking or pushing beyond your limits. Therapy creates space to understand your unique brain wiring as a difference — not a deficit — and develop strategies that work with your natural tendencies rather than against them.
-
Jess incorporates somatic therapy techniques to help you reconnect with your body's wisdom. Many clients have learned to dismiss physical sensations or intuitive feelings after years of having their experiences invalidated by partners, the medical system, family members, and self. Through somatic work, you'll learn to recognize, trust, and respond to your body's signals as valuable information guiding your healing process.
-
Having worked extensively with dancers, Jess understands the unique physical and emotional challenges of a career built on pushing bodily limits. She helps performance artists navigate injury, identity crises when unable to perform, the competitive pressure for perfection, and the complex transition when your relationship with dance must evolve due to aging or physical changes.
She also understands the difficulties that come with returning to dance after an injury or an extended break from dancing.
So much more than an hour of talking…
